Legislative Panel Approves Former Hartford Mayor as WC Commissioner

A legislative panel has approved former Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra to be a workers' compensation commissioner. The legislature's Judiciary Committee voted 34-0 last week to approve Segarra's nomination. Members noted that Segarra, who was born in Puerto Rico, will bring diversity and bilingualism to the commission. None of the other 13 commissioners are Latino, the Hartford Courant newspaper reported. Segarra, an attorney, was nominated by Gov. Daniel Malloy, who is not seeking re-election.
