Business Owner on Trial for Alleged Comp Fraud, Underreporting of Payroll

The workers' compensation fraud trial of a prominent Ohio businessman and former town official began this week in Canton. Craig Snee, owner of Earth 'n Wood mulch and stone products in Canton, is charged with underreporting his payroll and misclassifying workers, cheating the state-run workers' compensation system of $350,000. Snee employs about 70 people, and his attorney said that Snee made "a business decision to avoid laying off (workers)," according to the Canton newspaper.
