Vocational Benefits Held Steady in Oregon

Oregon insurers spent an average of $16,600 for vocational assistance, job re-training and equipment to help injured workers find new employment in 2004. The average cost of benefits for vocational assistance under workers' compensation was $16,596 for 631 cases that closed last year. The 2004 costs represented a modest 9 percent gain from 2000, according to a report by the Department of Consumer and Business Services.
