An Illinois workers' compensation attorney has decided to run against a longtime Republican officeholder who hasn't faced a Democratic opponent in 11 years.
Greg Tuite of Rockford is the first Democrat since 1992 to oppose state Rep. Ron Wait in a general election. The 50-year-old Tuite is the head of the Winnebago County Democratic Party and a Rockford Township trustee since 2001, the Daily Chronicle newspaper reported this week.
The 69th District includes the communities of Genoa and Kingston in northern DeKalb County and historically has voted for Republicans, the paper said.
