James River Group reported net income of $9.3 million for the third quarter of 2006, compared with a net loss of $9.5 million for the same quarter last year.
The Chapel Hill, N.C.-based insurer said results for the third quarter of 2005 included $17.5 million in after-tax costs related primarily to Hurricane Katrina.
The company reported an annualized return on average stockholder equity of 19% and an increase in third-quarter underwriting profit to $9.7 million -- compared with a loss of $17 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2005.
