The Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR) announced an online option for 16- and 17-year-old teenagers seeking to enter the workforce.
DLIR reported it issues approximately 10,000 work permits annually to such workers.
DLIR Director Nelson Befitel said the department is working to make obtaining a work permit more convenient for minors and their parents "without sacrificing the safety of these motivated teenagers."
"For today's computer-savvy teens, applying for online work permits is a common sense approach to getting teens into Hawaii's workplace," Befitel commented.
