Members of the Texas Medical Board approved 504 new medical licenses at their June meeting, reducing a backlog of licenses which currently stands at approximately 2,500, an agency spokeswoman said.
Getting additional doctors licensed in Texas has become a priority for the Texas Medical Association and lawmakers, in hopes that having more doctors licensed in the state will improve the state's ranking in physicians per capita and possibly add to the doctors available and willing to participate in the workers' compensation system.
