The Oregon Workers' Compensation Division reports receipt of 24,645 accepted disabling claims in 2001, a decrease of 720 claims from 2000. Employment decreased by 8,600 workers. This resulted in a claims rate of 1.5 claims per 100 workers, a six percent reduction from 2000. This claims rate is a record low in Oregon. The highest claims rate year reported by the WCD was 1992 when 1,258,600 covered employees produced 31,479 disabling claims and 65 fatal cases for a claims rate of 2.5. The claims rate has declined every year since except for 1999 and 2000 where the rate stayed the same at 1.6.
