Foodservice Leads Workplace Injury Stats

The foodservice industry leads the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics' ranking of workplace injuries and illnesses, with almost 300,000 cases reported in 2000.The industry is improving. The injury rate dropped three-tenths of a percent, from 5.5 cases per 100 full-time equivalent workers in 1999 to 5.2 in 2000, which is the lowest rate since the Bureau began compiling statistics in 1970.In addition, the industry has actually outperformed most other industries in terms of overall improvement, with a 40% drop in injuries and illnesses between 1992 and 2000, compared with a 30%...
