AUSTIN -- Gov. Rick Perry's staff is reviewing candidates to serve as the new workers' compensation commissioner when the functions of the Texas Workers' Compensation Commission (TWCC) are transferred to the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) on Sept. 1.
HB 7, passed by the Texas Legislature earlier this year, abolishes the TWCC and creates the Division of Workers' Compensation within TDI.
Perry spokeswoman Kathy Walt said Thursday that the governor's office is "in the early stages of gathering names" for the position.
The governor is required to name the commissioner by Oct. 1.
