Mechanics are more likely than the average worker to be injured or killed on the job, as evidenced by higher rates of fatalities, injuries and illnesses, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.
Assaults and violent acts are a leading cause of workplace fatalities, the bureau said.
The bureau said that contact with objects and equipment, such as parts and materials and vehicles, represents a significant hazard in both nonfatal and fatal injuries. Many of the remaining nonfatal cases were due to overexertion and sprains and strains.
