Foundation AI Fuels Growth for Acumen Law LLP Delivers 95% Reduction in Time Required to Process Inbound Documents

TUSTIN, CA  Foundation AI - a leading provider of intelligent document processing software for workers' compensation litigation and defense firms, announced another successful integration and deployment of their Foundation Extract Filer platform for Acumen Law LLP (http://acumenllp.com/).

The Foundation AI Extract Filer platform uses AI to process inbound workers' compensation documents - like physical mail, email, faxes, and large files directly into any practice management system - faster, cheaper, and more accurately than manual data-entry by expensive in-house or outsourced mailroom teams.

Based in Calabasas, California, Acumen Law LLP is a boutique firm that prides itself on paying a high degree of attention to each case it handles. "Our clients know that we invest our attention in each claim, and we regularly earn referrals as a result. But the intense clerical, specifically document processing demands, of workers' compensation law was a growth challenge we were working to navigate. To continue an exceptional level of attention and service and maintain a profitable growth trajectory, we needed to find ways to utilize our entire team more efficiently," said Michael Brand, the firm's co-founder.

'Knowing how important growth is to our partners' vision for the firm, I worked in collaboration with Foundation AI to implement Extract Filer processes that made sure our entire team has access to the documents they need when they need them," commented Jim Mezzera, Acumen Law LLP paralegal and office administrator.  "Extract Filer delivered a 95% reduction in the time required to process inbound documents."

Acumen did not have a mailroom supporting the firm. Instead, each paralegal and legal assistant allocated sixty to ninety minutes every day to process the mail, on top of their multitude of other responsibilities. Processing inbound documents across the firm required approximately 120 non-billable hours per week - hours paralegals and legal assistants should spend providing much greater value to their clients.

Using Foundation AI Extract Filer,  Acumen's staff simply loads large files or batch-scans unsorted mail. The software instantly OCRs each document to make it searchable, splits it by category, matches each document to the correct matter, and names the document to the firm's naming convention. A staff member confirms the AI's results, then Extract Filer routes each document to Acumen's CLIO practice management software and Google Drive integration.  Foundation AI Extract Filer alerts each attorney automatically with a link to the file so that they can review it wherever they are, on any device, and take immediate action.

"Foundation AI's software has been a gamechanger, especially during COVID, to streamline our correspondence processing. We used to spend hours matching and filing inbound correspondence. The software helps automate that for us, so people can focus more on working with our clients," said Brand.

"We win referrals because we operate smarter and more efficiently.  We're a young firm that has from the beginning embraced technology that allows us to serve our clients better," stated Christopher Pettit, the firm's co-founder. "However, increasing document processing costs were starting to pressure the firm meaningfully. But, with Foundation AI Extract Filer in place, we've been able to add four new attorneys without expanding our support staff."

Other recent Foundation AI Extract Filer implementations include Stockwell Harris and Floyd Skeren Manukian Langevin, LLP (FSML). Foundation AI Extract Filer works with or integrates with most practice management systems, including MerusCase, Clio, Prolaw, Litify, Smokeball, and more.
