Tuesday, May 5, 2020 | 0
The Workers Compensation Research Institute is hosting a free 30-minute webinar May 14 discussing compensability for COVID-19 claims.

John Ruser
WCRI President and CEO John Ruser and Judge David Langham, deputy chief judge of compensation claims for the Florida Office of Judges of Compensation Claims, will discuss whether a worker who contracts COVID-19 is eligible for compensation for income loss and medical expenses given that communicable diseases, such as the flu, have generally not been covered.
Questions the webinar will attempt to answer include how work comp handled communicable diseases in the past, what has changed about COVID-19 and how various states have altered the potential compensability of COVID-19 claims by creating presumptions.
Other issues that will be discussed include how different approaches to potential compensability would affect the volume of claims and whether treatment of COVID-19 claims signal a change for how communicable diseases will be covered by comp in the future.
The webinar is at 2 p.m. Eastern May 14.
