Zenith Files for 2.7% Rate Increase

Zenith National Insurance on Wednesday announced that it has filed for a 2.7% rate increase effective Jan. 1 -- far less than the 22.8% hike in the pure premium rate recommended by the state's rating board and rejected by Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.Zenith raised its rates by 4% on July 1, at a time when the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau was recommending a similar double-digit increase, which Poizner also rejected.State Compensation Insurance Fund recently announced its intention to raise rates by 5% on Jan. 1.
