Former U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm, who was accused of paying workers off the books to avoid payroll taxes and workers' compensation premiums, will serve eight months in prison after his conviction for filing a false income tax return, the U.S. Attorney's Office for Eastern New York announced last week.
Grimm, a Staten Island Republican, resigned from Congress after he pleaded guilty to a single count of tax fraud last December. A 20-count grand jury indictment accused him of underreporting $900,000 revenues from his Healthalicious restaurant in Manhattan.
