Compounded creams didn’t provide significantly greater pain relief than placebo skin creams in a study of almost 400 chronic pain patients, according to a new study that has confirmed the beliefs of many in the workers’ comp industry.
“Considering the increased costs of using a non-FDA-approved and regulated compounded cream rather than a single agent, we caution against routine use of compounded creams for chronic pain,” wrote the authors, Robert Brutcher and colleagues from Johns Hopkins Medicine and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
