Gov. Phil Scott this week announced a new program designed to help loggers work safely and reduce towering workers' compensation premiums.
The program, developed with the help of the National Council on Compensation Insurance, creates two new classifications for logging contractors: safety-certified mechanized logger and safety-certified non-mechanized logger. Both classifications require that loggers and their supervisors take job-specific training and have work sites inspected to ensure compliance, state officials said.
