The owner of a Massachusetts temporary staffing agency is facing workers’ compensation fraud charges for allegedly underreporting payroll, according to a report by the Lowell Sun.
Sophea Choeng, 35, was indicted by a Middlesex County Grand Jury on two counts each of work comp fraud and larceny, according to the report.
The Sun reports that Choeng allegedly reported $850,221 in payroll for his SPT Temp Agency in the 2013-2014 policy year. Investigators allege that the payroll actually exceeded $5.3 million.
During the next policy year, Choeng allegedly reported $551,591 in payroll when he actually paid more than $2 million, according to the report.
Choeng allegedly avoided paying at least $141,194 in work comp premiums by not reporting his true payroll, according to the Sun.
