Net written premiums for workers’ compensation carriers in the U.S. fell by 2.9% in 2019, according to a report AM Best published this morning.
Total net written premiums for work comp fell to $46 billion in 2019 from $47.4 billion in 2018. Even with the drop, net written premiums for 2019 were higher than they were from 2015 through 2017, according to the report.
AM Best also reports that excess workers’ compensation premiums fell to $919.5 million in 2019 from $1.1 billion in 2018. The only other year with less than $1 billion in excess comp premiums was 2017.
