Retired police officers in Iowa will not have pension payments reduced for work comp medical expenses under a bill Gov. Kim Reynolds signed Thursday.
Senate Bill 342, which the governor called the “Back the Blue Act” in a statement, is a broader measure that also includes provisions classifying rioting as a felony and eliminate elements of the crime of fleeing that required a patrol car to be marked and the officer to be wearing a uniform.
The bill also modifies the situations in which comp benefits are offset against pensions or other payments.
