California’s insurance commissioner on Monday said he is concerned about how a proposed pure premium rate filing would treat the state’s agriculture industry, an economic sector with employees who have been forced to continue working during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Commissioner Ricardo Lara also wondered why the rate filing included COVID-19 claim cost projections based on data from Massachusetts when California has a more diverse population that includes Latino and African-American residents who are more likely to suffer worse outcomes after contracting the virus.
