The Texas Department of Insurance wants to change the way maintenance taxes and fees are assessed, from a lengthy rulemaking process to one in which the insurance commissioner issues an order each year.
“This would allow the commissioner to maintain transparency on how the rates are calculated in the rule, but also help avoid delays that can result from the rulemaking process,” an explanation of the proposed change reads. “The commissioner will be able to set the rates by order sooner than can be done by rule, which benefits stakeholders and preserves agency resources.&rdquo...
