Workers’ compensation patients with lower-back injuries are more likely to be readmitted or require a second surgery when compared with non-comp patients, according to a new study from the Workers Compensation Research Institute.
And not only are readmission and reoperation rates higher among workers’ comp patients, but additional treatment and procedures can also send per-claim medical payments skyrocketing for some lumbar-surgery cases, the report said.
