National grocery chain Kroger has reached an agreement in principle with state attorneys general and Native American tribes to pay more than $1.2 billion to settle lawsuits alleging it helped fuel the opioid epidemic.
Kroger said it agreed to pay $1.2 billion to states and $36 million to tribes to fund opioid addiction abatement efforts. The payments would be made in equal installments over the next 11 years.
The grocer also agreed to pay $177 million in attorney fees and costs in equal installments over the next six years.
Kroger did not admit any wrongdoing.
