Bill Would Require WCB to Issue Stop-Work Orders to Uninsured Employers

The New York State Workers' Compensation Board would be required to issue stop-work orders to employers that knowingly fail to provide workers’ compensation coverage under a bill filed for the 2025 legislative session. Senate Bill 162, by Sen. Jessica Ramos, D-Queens, would require the WCB to notify employers of its intent to issue a stop-work order within 72 hours of finding a violation. The employer would then have 72 hours to procure workers' compensation coverage and notify the board it has come into compliance, or the board would be required to issue the stop-work ...
