A neurosurgeon who pleaded guilty earlier this year to accepting about $3.3 million in kickbacks for performing spinal surgeries at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Central California.
In addition to the five-year term handed down Friday, Dr. Lokesh Tantuwaya was also ordered to forfeit $3.3 million in proceeds from criminal activities.
Tantuwaya on Sept. 1 pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit honest services mail and wire fraud and to receive illegal payments for referrals.
