Wages for former inmates will be calculated based on what’s paid to other people performing similar work in the labor market, under legislation enacted by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee.
Inslee on Friday signed SB 5701, by Sen. Joe Nguyen, D-West Seattle.
Nguyen said in support of his bill that inmates are typically paid low wages and if they are injured shortly after being released, the wages they were paid while incarcerated are used to calculate indemnity benefits.
