Worker deaths in mines totaled 18 during the first six months of 2015, according to a report from the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration.
Of the 18 deaths, eight were in coal mines and 10 were in "metal and nonmetal" mines, according to the administration. The death toll in metal and nonmetal mines was five lower than during the same time period last year.
