Second Injury Fund Drives Most of Assessment Increase

The program that provides additional compensation to injured workers who had pre-existing disabilities is driving nearly three-quarters of the increase in the total assessment the Department of Industrial Relations says it needs to collect from California employers for the current fiscal year. Letters the DIR sent to carriers and self-insured employers Monday show the total assessment for the fiscal year that ends June 30, 2022, is $1.377 billion.
