The Texas Division of Workers' Compensation said the state had 564 fatal occupational injuries in 2023, 14 fewer than in 2022.
The incident rate of fatalities was 4.1 per 100,000 full-time employees in 2023, compared to 4.3 in 2022. The national incident rate was 3.5 per 100,000 full-time employees in 2023.
Private-sector employees represented 93% of total fatalities, with 526 incidents in 2023. The other 38 incidents involved public/governmental sector employees, a decrease from 11 in 2022.
