Federal prosecutors have charged 28 people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in connection with a fraud scheme that involved bribes, unnecessary medical treatment, fraudulent billing and falsification of medical records, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas announced Monday.
U.S. Attorney John Parker said in a press release that the federal Office of Workers' Compensation Programs paid $8.7 million in fraudulent bills, but because some of the defendants have entered guilty pleas the government will avoid paying $11 million in future payments.
