Governor Signs Coverage Waiver, Classification Bill

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert signed one bill removing authorization for insurers to issue workers’ compensation waivers and giving it to the Labor Commission and another bill creating a misclassification task force.The waiver bill enacts the Workers’ Compensation Coverage Waivers Act, which requires a business entity to submit information to the commission establishing it does not include an owner, partner or corporate officer as an employee, and otherwise has no other employees to receive a waiver.
