The New Jersey Senate Labor Committee advanced a bill that would make more parking areas part of the workplace, where injuries would be covered by workers' compensation insurance.
On Tuesday, the committee voted 3-1 to pass Senate Bill 771, sponsored by Senate Majority Whip Nicholas Scutari, D-Linden.
Employment begins “if an employer provides or designates a parking area for use by an employee when an employee arrives at the parking area prior to reporting for work and shall terminate when an employee leaves the parking area at the end of a work period,” the bill reads....
