The Virginia Senate on Wednesday unanimously passed a bill that would establish a universal statute of limitations for billing disputes that does not depend on the date services were rendered.
The Senate voted 39-0 to pass HB 205, by Del. Shelly A. Simonds, D-Newport News.
The bill would require employers or their carriers to try to recover payments from doctors within one year from the date payment was made, regardless of the date service was provided. The bill would also require providers to contest the sufficiency of payment within a year.
