Employer representatives told California lawmakers that it’s not appropriate to codify gender-based benefit increases into the state’s workers’ compensation law to address gender-based earning disparities.
Faith Borges, a lobbyist for the California Association of Joint Powers Authorities, said the proposal in Senate Bill 1458 to increase an injured worker’s average weekly wage if it is lower than the average weekly wage for the opposite gender would result in litigation that would slow the resolution of many claims.
