Yesterday, National Football League team, the Minnesota Vikings, asked a judge to dismiss some of the counts in a $100-million wrongful death lawsuit filed by the widow of Korey Stringer. Stringer, a 335-pound offensive lineman for the team, died Aug. 1, 2001, at the age of 27, of complications from heatstroke after collapsing on the second day of training camp.
The team sought dismissal of three counts, in part based on the exclusive remedy of workers' compensation, and Stringer's contract.
Judge Gary Larson is expected to rule on the request in several weeks. Source:
