The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health on Thursday announced that it assessed more than $1 million in penalties to multiple employers that allegedly failed to protect workers from COVID-19.
San Quentin State Prison received the largest fine of $421,880. Penalties assessed to 14 additional employers ranged from $15,125 to $87,950 and averaged a little more than $41,300.
The agency commonly referred to as Cal/OSHA said it opened inspections at San Quentin and Avenal state prisons following reports of staff hospitalizations.
