The delivery startup Postmates has challenged an order from Washington's Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) to provide workers' compensation coverage for its 3,000-plus couriers.
L&I, which is the state's monopoly workers' comp insurer, ordered Postmates to retroactively pay more than two years of premiums after determining that the company's couriers are "covered workers" under state law.
