The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals revived a health care worker’s claim for permanent disability benefits stemming from her COVID-19 infection.
Rena Meeks worked as a certified nurse's assistant for Opp Health and Rehabilitation LLC. She claimed she was exposed to COVID-19 at work in June 2020, leaving her permanently disabled by injuries to her lungs and airway.
Meeks filed a workers’ compensation claim, but she did not set forth any of her duties while she was employed with Opp, nor did she state how she was exposed to COVID-19.
