After three miners died in work accidents across the country in a single day, federal regulators have vowed to ramp up inspection efforts at mines.
Monday saw a plant operator buried under tons of sand and stone dust after a quarry collapse in Virginia, a loader operator engulfed in stockpiled material in North Dakota and a gold miner in Nevada stricken by mobile equipment, according to a Wednesday letter from the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration to mine owners and operators nationwide.
