The California Legislature passed a bill that would create a rebuttable COVID-19 presumption for first responders, health care workers and other essential employees through 2022 before the regular session ended Monday at midnight.
Senate Bill 1159, by San Mateo Democrat Sen. Jerry Hill, now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk. Newsom has until Sept. 30 to sign the bill, veto it or allow it to become law without his signature.
Two other proposals that would have presumed the disease is occupational were not called for votes in the Senate before the session ended.
