Under Maryland law, insurance carriers must report workers' compensation fraud to the state Insurance Administration, and the Administration’s Fraud Division investigates. But self-insured groups such as cities, counties, school districts and some large companies have had little choice in handling suspected fraud, other than calling the police.
That may be about to change.
SB 575, which passed the Maryland Senate this month 44-0, is now awaiting action in the House.
