Insurers and Their Attorneys Praise Denial of Reimbursement for Compounded Drugs

Insurers and defense attorneys are hailing a recent decision by the Texas State Office of Administrative Hearings to deny reimbursement for compounded medications, typically creams used to treat pain or heal scars.  Administrative Law Judge Gary Elkins on June 2 reversed a Division of Workers’ Compensation decision to reimburse American Specialty Pharmacy $1,613 to treat a patient’s carpal tunnel syndrome with a topical cream.
