Changes wrought by the pandemic, from presumption laws to restrictions on policy cancellations, will affect the workers' compensation industry for some time, industry leaders said Monday at the Workers' Compensation Institute's annual conference.
COVID resumption laws and orders, adopted in at least 14 states, have turned the tables on the burden of proof and have upended insurers' normal approach to deciding if a claim is work-related, said Mark Walls, vice president of communications and strategic analysis at Safety National Insurance.
