California lawmakers are considering legislation that would require Gov. Gavin Newsom to designate a new agency to manage the state’s prescription drug monitoring database.
The Department of Justice currently runs the Controlled Substances Utilization Review and Evaluation System. Assembly Bill 2055, by Assemblyman Evan Low, D-Cupertino, would direct the governor to select a new agency to run CURES by April 1, 2023. The Assembly Business and Professions Committee voted 14-0 to pass the bill on Tuesday.
