More than 25 million adults in the U.S. live with chronic pain, according to a study from the National Institutes of Health.
That means that 11.2% of U.S. adults have chronic pain, the researchers wrote in an article in the Journal of Pain. The NIH used data from the massive National Health Interview Survey, which includes information from a sample of more than 100,000 people, and drew from the survey's latest results from 2012.
The researchers found that people who reported being in the most pain were more likely to:
Take medication for depression.
Feel exhausted most or every day.
