SANTA ANA, California — U.S. District Court Judge Josephine Staton said on Friday that she really wants to issue a restitution order in the Pacific Hospital of Long Beach case, but she doesn’t know whether she can.
The judge said during a restitution hearing Friday that victims might be better served pursuing civil claims against the defendants, but she doesn’t really want to defer on restitution.
So she asked for more briefs from attorneys outlining how to proceed in a reasonable manner that doesn’t create excessively long delays in sentencing.
