Newly-registered nurses who regularly work overtime and take night shifts have higher rates of injury, a group of New York collegiate researchers have found in a study.
The study, published June 29 in the International Journal of Nursing Studies, found that rookie nurses who work overtime on a weekly basis are at a 32% higher risk of needle stick injuries than those who don't. The researchers -- two from the New York University College of Nursing and one from the University at Buffalo School of Nursing -- also found that new nurses who work night shifts are at a 16% greater risk of sprain...
