Employer Can't Cut Off Worker's Benefits Without Providing Notice

The Supreme Judicial Court of Maine ruled that an employer was required to issue notice of expiration of benefits before it could terminate them. Case: Somers v. S.D. Warren Co., No. WCB-20-60, 12/15/2020, published. Facts: Lorraine Somers suffered a right knee injury while working for the S.D. Warren Co. in 2000. She returned in a work-hardening capacity in October 2001 and resumed her regular job in December 2001. After her symptoms worsened, Somers stopped working in March 2005. She was terminated in 2007.
