AAOS Board Takes Aim at Opioid Epidemic

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons board of directors is calling for a comprehensive effort to help address the growing opioid epidemic in the U.S. Part of the effort is a board-approved “information statement” that outlines strategies for safer and more effective pain management, AAOS said in a news release on Monday.  Orthopaedic surgeons are the third-highest prescribers of opioids behind medical doctors and dentists, according to AAOS.
